2015-16 Class Choice Requests
Elementary Parents: We are nearing the end of our current school year, and will soon begin to look at preparing the class lists for the 2015-2016 school year. This process involves many people and many factors. As parents you have valuable information about your child that can be beneficial in this process. We must keep in mind that when completing class lists there are many factors to consider. For example: gender, ethnicity, special needs, and social issues are just a few factors that are considered as we compile the classes. Our highest priority is to create classes that maximize the benefits for all students. As we prepare to begin this process we will welcome your input as parents. However, we must caution you that we can not guarantee that your choice will be honored.
If you have requests that you would like considered please fill out the form below and return it to the Melba Elementary school office by Thursday, May 14. Late requests or requests by phone will not be accepted. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Principal Adams.
Melba Elementary Live Museum
Over the past two weeks, the students at Melba Elementary School have been studying biographies. Students have been learning how to research information from both media and text sources, organize the information, and place the information into various graphic organizers. Students then selected one biography in particular to research and present at the “Live Museum.” Students researched and then prepared a speech that included a hook line, 3 important facts, and a concluding sentence. After creating their speech, they designed a costume to represent their famous individual.
At the Live Museum, each student stood in a pose as a statue that would represent the qualities of their individual. They wore a red button and would begin presenting their speech when it was pushed. After concluding their speech, the student would return back to the motionless statue.
Students really enjoyed taking on the role of their unique individual. Thank you to all the student, staff, and parents who attended our Live Museum!
