Safety Precautions

 Dear Parent or Guardian:

It is that time of year again when our students come back to school and share summer adventures, work experience, and unfortunately, germs.  This letter is to inform you of precautions that the school is taking and precautions that you can use at home to help keep your kids safe and healthy this school year.

Precautions taken by the Melba School District:

·         Commonly touched surfaces are being disinfected on a daily basis

·         Community towels are being washed with laundry detergent and bleach (If your child has sensitive skin please send him/her with their own towel)

·         Weight room equipment is being sanitized daily

·         Adequate soap and paper towels are accessible

·         Hand sanitizer is available to all teachers for use in their rooms

·         Encourage students not to share anything

Precautions to be taken at home:

·         Wash P.E. and practice clothes daily, especially athletic clothing/gear

·         Shower daily, use good personal hygiene

·         Wash hands whenever possible with soap and water (minimum of 20 seconds)

·         Encourage your child to not share any clothing, towels, hairbrushes, etc.

·         Have anything suspicious looked at by a doctor as soon as possible

·         Report any contagious illnesses to the school so that added measures can be taken to prevent a wide spread problem

Please note that these precautions are only suggestions, but the more we work together, the better the outcome.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the school secretary – Candice Hoagland at 495-2508, Marlene Jamison at 495-2221, or Beth Cole at 495-2221.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL IF THEY HAVE A FEVER OF 100 F OR HIGHER.  They are also to remain home until they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of any fever-reducing medications

The Melba School District will take into consideration a number of factors when deciding whether or not to close school due to illness.  Factors include, but are not limited to, student and staff absences due to illness.

Did you know?  Research shows that calorie-for-calorie consuming more protein increases satiety (a feeling of fullness), which may lead to improved appetite control, food intake regulation, and over time, better body weight management.                                – www.nationaldairycouncil.org
