Lancey Robbins has just won the Congressional Art Competition for the Idaho entry. This nation-wide high school art competition has been around since 1982 where a winner from each state is flown to Washington DC in June for an awards ceremony and then their art displayed for one year in the US Capitol. Lancey’s painting, “Oasis in the Owyhees”, was painted from a photograph taken from our local Owyhee mountains using oils on canvas. This was Lancey’s first time using oils.
Lancey is a part-time student at Melba High School, where she takes art and seminary. The rest of her schooling is done online at Another Choice Charter School. She does online schooling so she and her family can travel without worrying about absences. Her travels have allowed her to visit multiple art museums in Paris, Rome, Venice, and Munich, including the Louvre and Musee d’Orsav. Lancey has a deep love for art and will continue taking art classes at Melba High School from the Incredible Mrs. Myers.
